Hey all!
In September, I was cast in an original play called “School for Manners” at Hole in the Wall Theatre in New Britain, Connecticut. It was such an awesome opportunity. It was the first time I acted on stage in nearly 10 years. I loved the comradery of the cast. I made some really cool new life- long friends, I pushed myself as an actor, and I went from being bored out of my mind to being busy nonstop for 10 solid weeks! The show wrapped recently and we ended it well. I’m so pleased with the work that we did. As the holidays approached and the snow arrived, I was glad that I took the winter off. The 3rd weekend of show (of a 4 weekend run) I was sick with a cold. I felt wiped out and I know that at one of the shows I wasn’t giving the same high-energy performance I had the weeks before. This was a bummer but it was a sign that I needed to listen to my body: Body: Oh hey Holly! Me: Oh hey Body. Body: How you feeling? Because you look like a hot mess. Me: I’m super stuffy. You know that awful feeling when the throat and nose feels like it’s on fire...that me for like a week! Body: Yikes that’s not good girrrrrrrlllll….Take in some lunch-naps, go to bed early, do some yoga to relax me and stay hydrated! Holly: Great advice! Thanks Body! Body: You’re welcome. We need to take care of each other! Cheesy grin and thumbs up here! Freeze-Frame High Five!!

So I might have celebrated a wee bit too much this Saint Paddy’s Day...(week)! Please pardon the delay. In 2010 while studying abroad I traveled to Ireland for a long weekend with some very dear friends. It was October, right before Halloween. We had a smashing time. My way to honor Saint Paddy’s is to share some of my favorites moments from the green isle. Take a look at the photos and videos below! The Cliffs of Moher were breathtaking. I tried scones and actually loved them! They were baked by nuns so holy water must have been a secret ingredient. We met a bunch of people on our travels, many from Australia who are super kind and fun! We enjoyed a few nights out and got to experience a real Irish pub with traditional fiddle music.
Last night after I shoveled probably a foot of snow, I warmed up under blankets and watched Life Sentence, starring Lucy Hale. I like her personality, although I’m not entirely familiar with her acting credentials. Pretty Little Liars is in my Netflix queue. (I know, some of you reading this are shocked that I didn’t watch it while it aired, however, for those of you who know me and have followed PXC for a while, that’s a recurring theme...Gilmore Girls, Parks and Rec, 30 Rock, etc.).
My boyfriend joined me, which was a surprise probably for both of us. I wasn’t sure if this show would be his thing. When he chuckled for the first time, I turned and stared. By the end of the show I lost count of his laughter. This Dramedy, which I think is my favorite type of show at the moment, delivered. It wasn’t Shakespeare but it doesn't have to be. This tells the story of Stella, a young woman who battled cancer for 8 years and lived her life as though she was dying. She was given the great but shocking news that in fact she was cured and is no longer facing imminent death. The Academy Awards. The Oscars. Such pomp and circumstance. A swinging Hollywood party. A night stars will never forget.
Especially this year. With all the political and social chaos that’s gone on the within the last year, award season has been interesting to say the least. On Hollywood’s biggest night, what will happen? Last year, the Oscar had a major snafu with the Best Picture Award mixup between LaLaLand and Moonlight. That was well before the sexual misconduct scandals raged through Tinseltown. Harvey, Kevin, Matt, a few of the big offenders in the upset. It seemed week after week more names were revealed, more and more women shared their stories in the simply put, MeToo stance. Just as recent as last week, Ryan Seacrest was among the men accused of sexual harassment. How will his appearance on E!’s Red carpet play out? Debra Messing called out E! On their own red carpet coverage, earlier in the award season, after the veteran reporter Catt Sandler’s salary was discovered to be way lower than her partner’s, Jason Kennedy. Mind you I love them both and it was difficult for me to digest that. |
