Episode original air date...TBD...come on universe we’re all waiting :p
Jimmy Fallon: Tonight’s guest is a newcomer but came on the scene in a whirlwind; she’s a writer and actor on her new Netflix show, “Carry On,” please welcome Holly Williams!
Holly Williams walks from behind the great curtain, the audience applauds wildly.
Holly waves to the audience and cameras.
Holly and Jimmy embrace and meet on camera for the first time.
Holly Williams: (Enthusiastically) Hi!!
JF: Hi Holly, thanks for coming tonight!
They both sit in their perspective chairs.
HW: Thanks for having me here, Jimmy! What a welcome, this is such a fabulous audience! And you’re...you’re so cool, this is so cool, this is Jimmy Fallon! (to the audience) Sorry for the epic fangirl moment guys. But come on this is so awesome! And clearly my first television interview!
JF: No way? Really? That IS cool! I’m honored I’m your first TV interview.
HW: Well it happened to work out that way and you make it appear so fun. Everyone looks like they have a blast when they come on your show. So this is great, taking all the pressure off...kinda, not really but…(laughs).
JF: No, this is exciting! Her first interview...this is Holly Williams history!
HW: It is! (Laughs).
JF: So, okay, your show, “Carry On”, is a new original series and such a huge hit on Netflix. I binged watched it already, it’s awesome.
HW: Thank you so much! It’s ahhh, super exciting!
JF: How did this all happen? You wrote it, right?
HW: Yeah, well, I’ve been writing screenplays since I was 12...most of them were very teenie-bopper-ish. Whatever a 12 year old thinks the adult world is like.
JF: 12? No way?
HW: Yeah, but they are pretty embarrassing and are about the Jonas Brothers and Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock...actually totally different stories there but Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock were supposed to star in the very first one I wrote...ever!
JF: What happened? Scheduling conflict (laughs)
HW: Yes! Exactly! But one summer, my thought was that I wanted to get in the film industry and no one was going to knock on my door and be like (with funny voice) “Hey, Holly, we hear you want to be a movie star, that’s great, we were looking for you!” You know, so I as a 12 year old wrote my first screenplay that summer and continued to write religiously until college and then, college happened, but then I found my way back to my path.
JF: Wow that’s impressive, like what did I do when I was 12 on summer vacation? I think I learned to belly flop.
JF: But “Carry On” is a huge hit. You’re getting great reviews, lots of fans. It says based on real life...but seriously?
HW: Yeah, pretty much. 2016 was a really tricky year for my family. In the show I play “Nora” (rolls eyes), basically I play myself and there is a sudden and urgent family scare...okay, my Mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor like a few weeks after New Year's Day 2016. And then I became her full time caregiver and the show really does a good job following the details of that really difficult time...oh gosh, it sounds so awful. Believe it or not, it's funny! Not like black comedy but there is a lot of laughter!
JF: Yea, I was actually surprised how much I laughed, at one point I was like “Uhh, is it okay to laugh about this?”
HW: Oh totally! But There’s a lot going on. Family health crisis. My boyfriend was living with me and my Mom. I was constantly in therapy….Lisa Kudrow plays Jen the therapist. She’s fantastic.
JF: How is it to write about all this and basically relive it again?
HW: It can be rough sometimes because it was so emotional but I have to remind myself, “Wait, I know how this episode ends!” And there really was a lot of laughter...I cried a lot but I also laughed because so much crap happened like what else could I do? Like honestly, I get people coming up to me all the time saying, that all couldn't have happened to you… and I’d be like “Bitch, you don’t know me!” Read my journal.
JF: People man.
HW: Seriously? But I do fun stuff too. Write fun stuff, I mean. I have a comedy movie coming out this winter about the failing daycare I used to work at...that’s pretty funny..and unfortunately accurate!
JF: You’re new to the industry but are working with some great veterans. Tim Allen guest stars as your dad. Lisa Kudrow is your therapist, Sela Ward plays your mom...like what a cast!
HW: Yea, I got so lucky, literally my dream cast..check my vision board.
HW: (con’t): Kathy Bates and Elizabeth Banks are in “Adulting”, the daycare movie...Lindsay Lohan is in that too! . Oh I’m about to go into production on a new comedy with Emma Watson! Ahhh. I literally could die now! I’ve been wanting to be her friend since I was 11!
JF: Wait, so many names dropped there. That’s like the Hollywood A-Bomb….what? Bates, Banks, Lohan, and Watson?
HW: Different movies, though.
JF: Oh geez, that was like holy cow… but still that’s...wow, what a variety….okay, we have a clip, can, want to set it up?
HW: Um...not sure what it is. Let’s wing it. Roll it!
HW: Oh good, it was a funny clip! See it is funny!
JF: I know, I watch it! And you can check out “Carry On” now streaming on Netflix! Thank you so much for coming tonight, Holly. Ladies and Gentlemen, Holly Williams. (crowd applauds) When we get back we have a group of puppies and kittens playing together. It’s just so darn cute. We’ll be right back!
